What is Christ’s Kingdom?

Answer: Christ’s kingdom involves two phases – a spiritual phase and an earthly phase. The spiritual phase consisting of the risen Lord and his resurrected followers, the church. The earthly phase begins with fleshly Israel and grows to include all of the willing and obedient of mankind.

The spiritual phase is organized when Jesus returns and his resurrected followers join him in the heavens.  The apostle Paul refers to this in 1 Thess. 4:15-17. The organization will be completed when the marriage supper of the Lamb takes place (Rev. 19:9).

The earthly phase begins when God makes a New Covenant with the house of Israel and Judah (Jer. 31:31-34; Heb. 8:8-12). The purpose of the New Covenant is to take away Israel’s and ultimately, mankind’s sins and bring them back to mental, moral and physical perfection – earthly son’s of God.

This kingdom will involve a resurrection of the dead for all mankind. “Having a hope in God, … that there shall certainly be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked.” (Acts 24:15 NASB) In this kingdom all men will be healed of their diseases. “Then the eyes of the blind will be opened And the ears of the deaf will be unstopped. Then the lame will leap like a deer, And the tongue of the mute will shout for joy.” (Isa. 35:5,6) Because Jesus sacrifice will provide forgiveness for man’s sin, “no resident will say, ‘I am sick’; The people who dwell there will be forgiven their iniquity. (Isa. 33:24 NASB)

People will no longer be blinded concerning who God is and how to worship Him. “‘They will not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,’ declares the LORD.” (Jer. 31:34) In that kingdom, God will pour His spirit upon all mankind (Joel 2:28) and as a result, “I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” (Jer. 31:33)

All of the obstacles that plague men today such has poverty, oppression, substance abuse, violence, etc. will be eliminated in Christ’s kingdom. “They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain, For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD As the waters cover the sea.” (Isa. 11:9 NASB)

“‘They will build houses and inhabit them; They will also plant vineyards and eat their fruit. (22) They will not build and another inhabit, They will not plant and another eat; For as the lifetime of a tree, so will be the days of My people, … (23) They will not labor in vain, Or bear children for calamity; … (24) It will also come to pass that before they call, I will answer; and while they are still speaking, I will hear. (25) The wolf and the lamb will graze together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox; and dust will be the serpent’s food. They will do no evil or harm in all My holy mountain,’ says the LORD.” (Isa 65:21-25 NASB)

Those who respond to this wonderful condition, learn righteousness and come into harmony with God and His law, will gain human perfection and will live forever on a restored, perfect earth.
