God's "Change" is Coming

America is in the process of selecting its next President. Candidates are vying for the chance to lead the United States through the many challenges that it faces: the war on terror, financial crisis, lack of affordable health care and a host of other challenges.  While Americans are hopeful that the next President will be able to fix these problems, many are filled with anxiety about the future. Our Lord Jesus described our day in Luke 21:25-26: "and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken."

Can America’s next President solve all of these problems? The Scriptures say no! Our Lord prophesied in Matt 24:21-22: (Darby) "for then shall there be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, nor ever shall be; and if those days had not been cut short, no flesh had been saved; but on account of the elect those days shall be cut short."

This great time of trouble will culminate in a final cataclysm called Armageddon when God directly intervenes in man’s affairs to bring this trouble to an end. (Rev. 16:16-18) God will intervene through the individual He has chosen to be leader of the world, our Lord Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul confirms this in Acts 17:31 "Because he [God] hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man [Jesus] whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead."

Following Armageddon, Jesus will establish an earthly kingdom that will bless all the families of the earth. (Gen. 22:16-18) In that kingdom, Jesus will be a spiritual high priest like Melchizedek, being both a priest and king. As king, he will rule over man’s civil affairs. Under his leadership, men will be beat their swords into plowshares and the nations will learn war no more. (Isa. 2:4) None shall hurt nor destroy in all his holy kingdom. (Isa. 11:9) As high priest, Jesus will lead mankind up a way of holiness back into harmony with God. (Isa. 35:8-10) Under his teaching, all mankind shall know God from the least unto the greatest.—Jer. 31:34

Jesus will heal men from all of the diseases that plague mankind. (Isa. 33:24) All in the grave will be brought to life and given an opportunity, along with those still living, to learn righteousness and gain everlasting life by obedience to the laws of that kingdom. (John 5:28-29; 1 Cor. 15:21-22) Jesus will solve the problems of natural disasters by removing the curse upon the earth and the earth will yield her increase. (Psa. 67:7) Sound too good to be true? This is the leader we should expect from a loving Heavenly Father.
