Was Jesus Resurrected from the Dead?

Answer: Yes! Because Jesus really died, he had to be resurrected from the dead to provide the benefits of his sacrifice on behalf of mankind. Paul tells us Jesus “Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised [from the dead] again for our justification.” (Rom. 4:25)

The apostle Paul writes about Jesus’ resurrection in Eph. 1:19,29 (NASB): “In accordance with the working of the strength of His might (20) which He [God] brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places.” It took the mighty power of God to raise Jesus from the dead.

The apostle Peter spoke about Jesus’ resurrection on the day of Pentecost. “But God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power.” (Acts 2:24 NASB) According to Peter, God’s raising of Jesus from the dead was prophesied by David in Psa. 16:10.   “BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT ABANDON MY SOUL TO HADES, NOR ALLOW YOUR HOLY ONE TO UNDERGO DECAY.” (Acts 2:27 NASB).

The apostle Paul confirms the resurrection of Jesus and states that it is the foundation for man’s salvation. “For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; (17) and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. (18) Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. (19) If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied. (20) But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep. (21) For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead. (22) For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.” (1 Cor. 15:16-22 NASB

Peter confirms that the spiritual hope of the followers of Jesus is based on Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be begotten again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, (4) to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you. (1 Peter 1:3,4 NASB)
