What Happens to Man in the Resurrection?

In the resurrection man will be restored to what Adam and Eve lost because they disobeyed in the garden of Eden. Man will be restored to perfect health and life, perfection of heart and mind, sonship with God and dominion over the earth.

Man’s health in Christ’s earthly kingdom will be healed as we are told in Isa. 33:24 (NASB): “And no resident will say, ‘I am sick’; The people who dwell there will be forgiven their iniquity.” Man gets sick and die because of Adam’s sin. When the blood of Christ is applied to the human family sealing the New Covenant, man’s illnesses will be healed.

Those in the grave will be brought back to life as Jesus said in John 5:28-29 (NASB): “Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice, (29) and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment.”

In this resurrection of judgment all mankind will be brought back to life to learn righteousness. Isaiah writes in Isa. 26:9 (NASB): “For when the earth experiences Your judgments The inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.” Then mankind will be judged according to John in Rev. 20:12-13 (NASB): “And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. (13) And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds.”

The result of this teaching and judgment will be to bring man’s character back to righteousness, perfection and harmony with God and Christ. Through this education process God will pour his spirit upon on all flesh and they will become obedient to Him. The prophet Ezekiel writes of this day in Ezek. 36:25-27 (NASB): “Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. (26) Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. (27) I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances.”

Once brought back to perfection, man will be once again a son of God and will reign over the earth. The prophet Jeremiah writes in Jer. 32:38-40 (NASB): “They shall be My people, and I will be their God; (39) and I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear Me always, for their own good and for the good of their children after them. (40) I will make an everlasting covenant with them that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; and I will put the fear of Me in their hearts so that they will not turn away from Me.”
