Who is God?

Answer: God is the supreme being who is responsible for the creation of the universe and all of the life contained therein. David writes that He is without beginning or end in Psa.  90:2: “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.”

He is unlimited in power. Jeremiah writes in Jer. 32:17: “Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee.” Isaiah adds in Isa. 40:12 (NASB): “Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?”

He is unlimited in wisdom and understanding. “The LORD by wisdom founded the earth, By understanding He established the heavens. … For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” Prov. 3:19, 2:6 (NASB) God’s wisdom allows He to: “Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure” (Isa. 46:10). This allows God to make plans that are always successful.

God is also righteous. “Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face” (Psa. 89:14). The apostle John writes, “He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” (1 John 4:8).

These four attributes (justice, wisdom, love and power) constitute God’s character and work in perfect harmony to both fashion His plans for His creation including mankind. These plans included a plan of saving the human family from death and educating them in righteousness. “In the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” ( 1 Tim. 2:3,4)
