Answer: Jesus is God’s “only begotten Son.” (John 3:16) This means he was the only direct creation of God. All other beings and things were made by our Lord in his pre-human existence as John writes in John 1:3: “All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.”
Solomon confirms that Jesus was created before anything else in Prov. 8:22-30: “The LORD possessed me at the beginning of His way, Before His works of old. (23) From everlasting I was established, From the beginning, from the earliest times of the earth. (24) When there were no depths I was brought forth, When there were no springs abounding with water. (25) Before the mountains were settled, Before the hills I was brought forth; (26) While He had not yet made the earth and the fields, Nor the first dust of the world. (27) When He established the heavens, I was there, When He inscribed a circle on the face of the deep, (28) When He made firm the skies above, When the springs of the deep became fixed, (29) When He set for the sea its boundary So that the water would not transgress His command, When He marked out the foundations of the earth; (30) Then I was beside Him, as a master workman; And I was daily His delight, Rejoicing always before Him.” This agrees with Gen. 1:26 where God said “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness;” The “us” and “our” refer to God and His only begotten son.
John writes about our Lord’s pre-human existence in John 1:1-2(Diaglott): “In a beginning was the Word, and the Word was with the God, and a god was the Word. (2) This was in a beginning with the God.” “Word” is translated from the Greek word “Logos” which means word spoken or spokesman. Thayer defines Logos to mean God’s “minister in creation and government of the universe.”
Though created as a great spirit being, Jesus became flesh so that he could sacrifice that perfect human life as a ransom for Adam. Paul tells us this in Hebrews 2:9 (NASB): “But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.”
Jesus humbled himself to be made flesh and then further humbled himself unto the death of a cross. (Phil. 2:6-8) As a result, God by his mighty power raised Jesus from the dead, gave him immortality and seated Jesus at God’s own right hand as a great spirit being. (Eph. 1:19-23; John 5:26)
Because of Jesus’ faithfulness, “God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, (10) so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, (11) and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Phil. 2:9-11)
